How roof insurance claims work
What to expect from first call to final walkthrough, and where your roofer fits in.
The usual steps
- Inspection and documentation. A roofer inspects the roof and documents damage with photos and a written report.
- Filing the claim. You report the damage to your insurer. Your policy sets your coverage and deductible.
- Adjuster visit. The insurance company sends an adjuster to inspect. It helps to have your roofer there so damage is identified.
- Scope and estimate. The insurer issues a scope of work. Your roofer walks you through the line items.
- The work. Your roof is restored to its pre-storm condition, and the work is guaranteed in writing.
How Red Ridge helps
We are not public adjusters and do not negotiate on your behalf, but we help at every phase: documenting storm damage with clear photos and a detailed report, meeting your adjuster on site, explaining the scope and line items, and restoring your home.
Your deductible is yours to pay. Be wary of any contractor who offers to waive or cover it.
Questions to ask your insurer
- What is my deductible for wind and hail?
- Does my policy cover replacement cost or actual cash value?
- Is there a deadline to file after a storm?
- Do you offer discounts for impact-resistant roofing?
